The Gospel Window
The Gospel Window
The large tripartite window in the
north transept presents ten miniature
scenes from Jesus' life and ministry.
In the center he invites the people
to come to him. On the one side
and the other he is pictured
as the Shepherd of the Sheep and
Protector of Little Children.
This window was designed and
produced by
Ford and Brooks of Boston
(1895).
Is it a memorial
to the Rev. Maskell Mills Carrl,
one of the earliest
Swedenborgian ministers
in America. |
The Baptism Window
To the left
of the Baptistry, on the north wall of the
transept,
the Baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17)
is depicted in deep blues and reds.
This window was given by Mrs. Bessie Edson in memory
of her mother.

The Madonna Window
This window represents
the occasion when Mary
brought the infant Jesus
to the temple in Jerusalem
to be presented at the altar
as was the custom
(Luke 2:22). This window, along with three
others in the nave, were originally
in the Swedenborgian Church in Brooklyn, NY.
When that edifice was razed in
1963, the windows were given to the
National Church. The complement the story of the Bible as told by
our stained glass.
This addition, many decades
later, explains why
the theme of the
stained glass windows
in the nave departs somewhat
from the theme suggested
by the Rev. Dr. Sewall. |
