Stained Glass Windows
The church's beautiful stained glass windows were produced by leading art
glass studios of the nineteenth century such as Ford and Brooks, Lamb and
Tiffany. The windows come from a variety of sources; some were commissioned
for the National Church; others were originally part of other Swedenborgian
churches.
The
stained glass windows are among the great treasures of this church. Each has
religious meaning as well as historical significance for the church.
The theme
for the stained glass windows was suggested by Rev. Dr. Frank Sewell. The
windows of the nave, including the west window, contain subjects from the
Law and the Prophets. The transept windows have scenes from the Gospel, and
the chancel windows, from Revelation.
The
Chancel Windows
The
seven arched windows above the altar portray scenes as described in the
opening chapters of the book of Revelation.
Each
golden lamp stand symbolizes one of the seven infant Christian churches and
the angel reporsents the spirit of each of these churches. Moving from
left to right we see these churches in their order and the symbols of their
respective promises.

the Rev. Mssrs. William B. Hayden, Richard de Charms, John R.
Hibbard, Chauncey Giles, Abiel Silver, Jabez Fox and John Worcester.
These graceful windows were made by Ford and Brooks of Boston
(1895-1912) from the design of Alice Archer Sewell James, the
daughter of the Rev. Dr. Frank Sewell.
